After a week of basically sitting (in an airport, on a plane, in a conference room, at my desk), I finally had the chance to run around a bit today and play basketball with the scholars during break time. I am not a good basketball player, but comparatively it was a far better choice than trying to play soccer would have been. Fortunately, my 50% shooting percentage (on layups) was slightly above average and the kids seem to think that I’m actually athletic.
Otherwise, today was a great success. The scholars have made incredible strides and seem to truly understand the themes of the program. I’ve found that a more hands- on approach than I had planned on is necessary to ensure that the lessons have their desired effect, but it is fair to say that Robert and Armel are getting the hang of their gig too. It’s also fair to say that everyone (myself included) is exhausted at this point after some very intensive lessons.
Thank you all again for your support and I look forward to posting pictures and videos upon my return.
